Your OpportunityStantec's Environmental Services practice seeks an Environmental Data Scientist with demonstrated experience managing and analyzing ecological datasets to support our work related to wildlife and the renewable energy sector and associated research projects.
This position will be based out of our Topsham, Maine office, but will allow for fully remote work.
Key ResponsibilitiesData management responsibilities include developing coding-based processes to assemble, inspect, clean, and summarize large datasets to support ongoing research and monitoring efforts for our clients, statistical analysis, data visualization, technical report writing, and manuscript preparation.
Responsibilities will also include processing and analyzing data from acoustic bat detectors and/or thermal imaging video sensors.
Your Capabilities and Credentials Excellent verbal and written communication, including advanced technical writing abilities Demonstrated experience writing, editing, and executing code in the R software environment to assemble, standardize, analyze, and visualize large datasets Demonstrated experience applying and interpreting statistical models Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships Must be able to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments Ability to perform work accurately in a detailed-oriented environment Knowledge of computer applications and functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Strong collaboration and ability to work with a team in a dynamic environment, including independent, remote work Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required.
Master's degree or PhD in environmental science or related field preferred (and/or minimum 5 years' work experience in the consulting field or academia).
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
